A Little History about GUMC On September 5, 1904, Grace Church was established as a mission to serve the needs of the southeast part of the city of Carbondale. In 1924, Reverend C. L. Coleman was appointed the pastor. In 1925, the original building burned to the ground and was rebuilt a year later.
On January 18, 1987, Grace United Methodist Church was relocated to its present site at 220 North Tower Road. We are very thankful for our new families, and even more thankful that growth continues.
In 2002, the church celebrated the consecration of a nearly 18,000 square foot addition to its Tower Road complex. This addition has added space for Sunday School classes, administrative offices, a church library, additional meeting rooms, youth rooms, a commercial kitchen and a large recreational space for fellowship, sports and worship.
